Don't buy this Kindle edition: Bad format, navigation

There are at least 4 listings for this volume of the Schaff "Fathers" collections. You need to carefully note the cover images and the titles, to get the best Kindle edition. Instead of this edition, get:
Ante-Nicene Fathers Volume 1 (Early Church Fathers) by Philip Schaff (Kindle Edition - June 8, 2009) - Kindle Book [Christian Classics Ethereal Library)

Note the difference titles and cover images.

What's wrong with this edition:

1. In this volume part of the First Apology of Justin Martyr is missing, Chapters 66 and 67, on the Eucharist/Sacrament (arguably the most important material in this work on early Christian theology and life). The preceding chapter stops mid sentence and then jumps to the Conclusion chapter.

2. On my KindleOne, the navigation was extremely flakey: the Table of Contents links would often jump into the middle of a preceeding work or chapter, back paging would often jump back several pages, etc.

3. The type size would unaccountably jump back and forth between large and smaller from one paragraph to the next.

4. The original page numbers, the notes and their numbers were mixed in with the text without any distinction, making it very hard to to follow the text. And the while note numbers are shown, they are not active links.

In the edition recommended above, these problems don't exist. The notes have active links, the Table of Contents is 3 tiered (by author, then under each author by work, then by chapter).

Don't buy this or any of this publisher/edition of the Schaff collections, buy the other ones instead.

They should be read in the order in which they are arranged to appreciate the power and overall loose plot. "Part I: Genius" introduces readers to the main character and her family. "Part II: The Secret" explores the private, painful stories of the family and ends with the parents' divorce. "Part III: A Dime a Dozen" explores identity and culture. Grimes's carefully crafted word placement matches the rhythms and messages of the poems. In "Stroll," words are offset from the left margin, symbolizing the protagonist's individual pace, which is unique and different from that of her mother. From protecting oneself from the risks of love in "Foster Home," to a daughter's yearning for her mother's pride in the title piece, emotion flows through these verses. The melodic rhythms gracefully sing when read aloud. Resembling photographs, the soft black-and-white illustrations portray the family members and offer images of the words without infringing on readers' imaginations or personal reactions to the poetry. Librarians and English teachers may consider planning a program to explore this book and Grimes's novel, Jazmin's Notebook (Dial, 1998) for similarities and differences. Through Gates of Splendor is a 1957 best selling book written by Elisabeth Elliot. The book tells the story of Operation Auca, an attempt by five American missionaries - Jim Elliot (the author's husband), Pete Fleming, Ed McCully, Nate Saint, and Roger Youderian - to reach the Huaorani tribe of eastern Ecuador. All five of the men were killed by the tribe. The book is Elliot's first book, and arguably her most well known work.[citation needed] The title of the book is derived from the fourth stanza of the hymn "We Rest on Thee". This hymn was famously sung by the missionaries before the men left for Waodaoni territory in September 1955. The lines read:[1] We rest on Thee, our Shield and our Defender. Thine is the battle, Thine shall be the praise; When passing through the gates of pearly splendor, Victors, we rest with Thee, through endless days. Elliot wrote the book while still a missionary in Ecuador. She wrote the book at the request and cooperation from the families of the five men. She was given copies of letters and other writings which were extensively quoted from in the book. The original edition of the book was published in 1957, one year before the first peaceful contact with the Huaorani was made. In subsequent publications of the book, epilogues have been added to tell about what has happened to the Huaorani tribe since Operation Auca, and what has happened to the missionaries' families
