About the Author
Martin Luther (1483, 1546) was a German monk, a theologian and church reformer, he is considered to be the founder of Protestantism. Luther was a professor of Bible at the University of Wittenberg when he posted his famous 95 Theses (1517). In addition to writing many books, Luther translated the Bible into German. Luther believed that salvation was only by faith in Jesus, unmediated by the church. He challenged papal authority by emphasing the Bible as the only source of religious authority and believed the church to be a priesthood of all believers.These ideas helped to inspire the Protestant Reformation and changed the course of Western civilization. He married Katharina von Bora thus initiating the practice of clerical marriage within Protestantism.- Publisher.

So glad we were able to find this book here!

I purchased this product at a nicely discounted price as a gift for my mother. We had searched all over the internet for this, and Amazon was the only place that actually carried it! My mom was very excited as she had been wanting this book for a long time and couldn't figure out where she could go to purchase it! It came very quickly as well much to our surprise. This book will provide one with a shortened version of Luthers faith and life. It is very easy to understand and the stories are written well enough for even children to learn the essential bible stories. It goes over the ten commandments, the lords prayer, the creed, and much much more! This is perfect for any Lutheran faith person, or someone who wants a glimpse into what the Lutheran faith teaches. There are a lot of quotes from the original scripture which has helped my mother to understand some of the questions she has had about some things. This is perfect for parents who want to teach their children about the religion in a more understandable way. If you are looking for an actual bible, or more in depth, this probably wouldn't be the best choice as there is a lot more to the faith then this book has as it is a shortened version. This came in perfectly new and crisp condition. And we are very pleased with the purchase! We would definitely purchase this again if need be in the future and it is a five star rating all the way around!

Answered so many questions I had

I have been a Christian for quite a few years. And I went through two years of confirmation classes as a teen. But over the last few years as I spent more time in God's Word, I found I had a lot of questions. I asked my pastor, but never got satisfactory answers. I recently joined a Lutheran (LCMS) church and read this book and the Book of Concord. I found both to be very helpful, but in particular, I enjoyed how the Small Catechism answered so many of the questions I had previously been unable to answer. All of the points are backed up with quotations from scripture (NIV translation) which I also liked. All in all, I highly recommend this book. I think it is appropriate for all Christians, not just Lutherans.

Excellent

This Concordia publication has Luther's small catechism with 200 pages of scripture verses and explanations. This is an excellent study for anyone, young or old. I am in my forties and found this a great way to remind me of the clear truths of christianity. Luther's writings have a way of always bringing you back to the basics and the basics are always relevant to whatever you are going through in your life. It is only when you get away from clear doctrine that the gospel seems less than relevant to your daily life. The catechism is a great review of the truths of the christian faith.
